BIO
Originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, I immigrated to the United States about 15 years ago and currently live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Family, motherhood, two master’s degrees, and various careers have pushed me to grow beyond anything I could have imagined—the messy, the exciting, and everything in between. Aside from my passion for art, I love yoga, photography, traveling, and reading poetry and fantasy fiction (though I can never seem to find the time to actually read). My life is a perfect mix of chaos, creativity, and caffeine, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"A painting is not a picture of an experience; it is an experience." - Mark Rothko
As both an artist and a trained psychotherapist, my work is deeply shaped by the relationship between emotions, the psyche, and the creative process. Going through grad school and studying psychology opened up my mind to see beyond the artistic aesthetics. I aim to translate internal experiences into tangible forms, offering pieces that resonate deeply and invite connection, reflection, and joy. Drawing inspiration from the natural world—clouds drifting in open skies, rhythmic movement of waves, the steadfast strength of mountains—my paintings capture the fleeting beauty, transformative power and balance that we see outside and experience within.
My creative process begins with embracing chaos. Each painting starts as a deliberate mess—a raw, unfiltered exploration of textures, colors, and forms. Through this, I employ a wide range of techniques such as layering, wet-on-wet, scumbling, sgraffito, chiaroscuro, blending, etc. to layer complexity and simplicity, gradually shaping them into a dance between tension and harmony. This interplay reflects the dualities of life: the intricate and the straightforward, the chaotic and the serene. Painting allows me to externalize and transform internal experiences, translating them into tangible forms that resonate with the viewer. For me, the outcome is not solely about achieving a visually beautiful painting but about the act of creating itself.
My hope is to create bold and striking art that creates an experience and invites reflection, engagement, and emotional connection.
